The German Hydrographic Society (DHyG) is a professional association that promotes the interests of hydrography and sees itself as the mouthpiece of hydrographers. Since 1984, DHyG has been promoting practical and scientific hydrography as well as national and international cooperation. The DHyG offers a forum of regular professional exchange to all interested parties.
Once a year it organizes a conference: the Hydrographentag. In addition, it publishes the Hydrographische Nachrichten three times a year, the only German-language journal for hydrography and geoinformation.
DHyG is a member of several associations and organizations. Through the network that is created in this way, more can be achieved as a group. The associations that issued the "Bremen Declaration" in 2008 are pursuing the same goal. Together, the associations - in addition to the DHyG, for example, the DVW or the VDV - want to represent professional interests to the public and politicians. Joint advanced and further training courses are also offered. The cooperation benefits all members.
International Federation of Hydrographic Societies
The IFHS represents the interests of hydrographers as the international umbrella organization of hydrographic societies, in which eight national societies are organized. The know-how of the individual members helps the IFHS to have an internationally perceived voice. The IFHS is responsible for the HYDRO conferences and publishes the Hydrographic Journal and the IFHS News. DHyG is a member of the IFHS. DHyG members therefore enjoy discounted conditions.
